Why isn't Reddit working for you?

Six checks on your own device in about ten seconds: your connection, whether your network blocks Reddit, your DNS, your device clock, cookies and your network. You get the exact fix for what we find.

STEP 2

Report a problem

What is not working for you? One tap, no sign-in. Your report helps everyone else see what is happening.

One report per person, checked for duplicates and abuse. We store the problem type, your country and anonymous codes that change daily. Never your IP address, name or account.

Is Reddit down, or is it just you?

  1. 1

    Read the live status above.

If reddit.com fails for us too, or reports are spiking, Reddit is having problems.

  2. 2

    Try old.reddit.com.

The classic site sometimes keeps working when the new one does not, and the other way round.

  3. 3

Try the app and the website.

App-only problems are common. If the website works, update or restart the app.

  4. 4

    Turn off your VPN.

Reddit blocks many VPN and data-centre addresses with a "blocked by network security" page that looks like an outage.

  5. 5

    Check one subreddit.

A private, quarantined or banned subreddit shows an error even when Reddit is fine.

For moderators and community managers

  • Queues and AutoModerator. Spam and moderation processing appear as separate components on Reddit’s status page and can lag behind during incidents.

  • Scheduled posts. Posts scheduled during an incident may publish late. Check them once the status is green.

  • Tell your community. A sticky note or a post on your community’s other channels saves a flood of "is it just me" posts.

Why does Reddit go down?

Infrastructure upgrades
The Pi Day 2023 outage came from a Kubernetes upgrade that broke networking in Reddit’s largest cluster.
Cloud provider incidents
During the October 2025 AWS outage, Reddit showed "too many requests" pages.
App releases
Some incidents affect only the mobile apps while the website keeps working.
Traffic spikes
Breaking news and big events drive sudden surges that slow comments and votes.

How this page works

Every minute our servers request Reddit's main endpoints, resolve www.reddit.com through Cloudflare, Google and reddit's own nameservers, and read redditstatus.com. We combine that with one-tap user reports, filtered for duplicates and abuse: a spike needs at least 12 reports in 15 minutes from 8 or more different networks.

Built to avoid false alarms: a failed request is retried before it counts, a single bad check never says "down" on its own, and a check that fails for reasons on our side is shown as inconclusive rather than as an outage. Limits: we check from one location, so a regional problem may first show up in user reports. Reports store only the problem type, a country code and anonymous codes that change daily; never your IP address. Protego is independent and not affiliated with Reddit. Last reviewed .

Frequently asked questions

Is Reddit down right now?

The status box at the top of this page answers that live. We check reddit.com, old Reddit, sign-in, the API and images every minute, read Reddit’s status page and count user reports.

Why does Reddit say my request was blocked by network security?

Reddit blocks many VPN, proxy and data-centre addresses. It is not an outage: turn off the VPN or switch to another network.

Reddit works on the website but not the app. Why?

App-only incidents are common, and Reddit’s status page has sometimes stayed green during them. Update and restart the app, and watch the user reports here.

Is old Reddit down too?

We check old.reddit.com separately. It often keeps working when the new site does not.

What does "too many requests" mean on Reddit?

Reddit is rate limiting you or shedding load. During incidents it appears for everyone; otherwise wait a few minutes.

Does Reddit have an official status page?

Yes: redditstatus.com, which we show live on this page.
