Is LinkedIn down, or is it just you?
- 1
Read the live status above.
If LinkedIn fails for us too, or LinkedIn’s own status page lists an incident, wait it out.
- 2
Try the app and the website.
If one works, the other is the problem: update the app, or open linkedin.com in a private window to rule out cookies and extensions.
- 3
Check a specific feature.
LinkedIn often breaks one feature at a time: messaging, notifications, Jobs or profile views. The official status lists each separately.
- 4
Switch networks.
Work networks sometimes restrict LinkedIn. Try mobile data.
- 5
Locked out?
If your password stopped working and you did not change it, treat it as a possible account takeover: use LinkedIn’s "Forgot password" and secure your email first.
LinkedIn error messages and what they mean
| Error | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Something went wrong. Try reloading. | A LinkedIn server error on that page or feature | Reload once; if it spreads across pages, LinkedIn is having problems |
| Feed or messages will not load | One LinkedIn service is degraded | Check the official status above for that feature |
| This page doesn’t exist | The profile, post or job was removed or made private | Not an outage |
| Your account has been restricted | LinkedIn limited the account (often after unusual activity) | Not an outage: follow LinkedIn’s verification steps |
| Sign-in code never arrives | Email or SMS verification is delayed | Wait a few minutes; check spam; avoid requesting many codes |
Hiring, job hunting or posting during a LinkedIn outage
Applications. If Easy Apply errors out, check My Jobs before applying again: an application can go through despite an error.
Scheduled posts and ads. Campaign Manager and Pages appear separately on LinkedIn’s status page. Pause campaign changes until they are green.
Recruiter and Sales Navigator. They are listed as separate components on the official status, so one can be down while the main site works.
Keep candidates informed. If interviews depend on LinkedIn messages, switch to email until the incident is over.
Why does LinkedIn go down?
- Feature-level failures
- Many LinkedIn incidents affect one service, such as profile views or notifications, rather than the whole site.
- Deployments
- Frequent updates to a very large site mean some incidents come from a change that is rolled back.
- Shared Microsoft infrastructure
- LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft, but it largely runs its own platform, so Microsoft 365 outages do not usually take LinkedIn down.
- Network and regional problems
- Internet provider and regional routing issues can make LinkedIn fail in one country only.

How this page works
Every minute our servers request LinkedIn's main endpoints, resolve www.linkedin.com through Cloudflare, Google and linkedIn's own nameservers, and read linkedin-status.com. We combine that with one-tap user reports, filtered for duplicates and abuse: a spike needs at least 12 reports in 15 minutes from 8 or more different networks.
Built to avoid false alarms: a failed request is retried before it counts, a single bad check never says "down" on its own, and a check that fails for reasons on our side is shown as inconclusive rather than as an outage. Limits: we check from one location, so a regional problem may first show up in user reports. Reports store only the problem type, a country code and anonymous codes that change daily; never your IP address. Protego is independent and not affiliated with LinkedIn. Last reviewed .
Frequently asked questions
Is LinkedIn down right now?
The status box at the top of this page answers that live. We check linkedin.com, sign-in and Jobs every minute, read LinkedIn’s official status page and count user reports.
Why is the LinkedIn website not working for me?
If LinkedIn is up, it is usually your browser or app: try a private window, clear cookies for linkedin.com, disable extensions, or update the app.
Does LinkedIn have an official status page?
Yes: linkedin-status.com lists LinkedIn.com, Jobs, Learning, Recruiter, Pages, Ads and more as separate components. We show it live on this page.
LinkedIn messages are not sending. Is it down?
Messaging can fail on its own. Check the status above; if LinkedIn is up, reload, then try the app or website instead.
Is LinkedIn down because Microsoft is down?
Rarely. Microsoft owns LinkedIn, but it largely runs on its own infrastructure. See our separate Microsoft 365 status page.
Was my LinkedIn account hacked?
Signs include a changed password or email you did not make, messages you did not send and new connections you do not recognise. Reset your password from a trusted device and secure your email account first.
