What is not working for you? One tap, no sign-in. Your report helps everyone else see what is happening.

Is Amazon down, or is it just you?

  1. 1

    Read the live status above.

If the store or cart fail for us too, or reports are spiking, Amazon is having problems: wait rather than retrying orders.

  2. 2

Check your orders before ordering again.

During an outage an order can go through even when checkout shows an error. Look in Your Orders before you click Buy again, to avoid paying twice.

  3. 3

Try the app and the website.

If one works and the other does not, the problem is that app or browser: update the app, or clear cookies for amazon.com.

  4. 4

    Switch networks.

Try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. A VPN can trigger Amazon’s robot checks, which look like errors.

  5. 5

    Check the right Amazon.

Amazon runs a separate store per country. A problem on amazon.co.uk or amazon.de does not always affect amazon.com.

Amazon error messages and what they mean

Sorry! Something went wrong! (dog page)An Amazon server error on that pageReload once; if it repeats across pages, Amazon is having problems
503 Service UnavailableAmazon is overloaded or a part of the site is downWait a few minutes; big sale events make this more common

Amazon outage scams to watch for

Outages and big sales are when fake Amazon messages spike. Be suspicious of:

  • "Your order could not be processed" emails with a link. Real order problems appear in Your Orders on the site or app. Go there directly instead of clicking.

  • Calls or texts from "Amazon support" asking for codes or payment. Amazon will not ask for your one-time code, remote access, or gift cards as payment.

  • Fake refund or account-locked pages. They copy Amazon’s look to steal your password and card. Check the address bar before signing in.

  • Unsure about an email? Forward it to our free email verifier: it checks the sender, links and attachments and replies with a risk score.

Why does Amazon go down?

Traffic surges
Prime Day 2018 opened with errors for many shoppers when traffic outran capacity, according to reporting at the time.
Software and deployment problems
A bad update to one part of the store can break search, carts or checkout while the homepage still loads.
AWS dependencies
Amazon.com runs on AWS. Large AWS events can affect parts of the store, though the shopping site is engineered to ride out many of them.
Country-specific issues
Each country store runs separately, so an outage can hit one country while others work.

How this page works

Every minute our servers request Amazon's main endpoints, resolve www.amazon.com through Cloudflare, Google and amazon's own nameservers. We combine that with one-tap user reports, filtered for duplicates and abuse: a spike needs at least 12 reports in 15 minutes from 8 or more different networks.

Built to avoid false alarms: a failed request is retried before it counts, a single bad check never says "down" on its own, and a check that fails for reasons on our side is shown as inconclusive rather than as an outage. Limits: we check from one location, so a regional problem may first show up in user reports. Reports store only the problem type, a country code and anonymous codes that change daily; never your IP address. Protego is independent and not affiliated with Amazon. Last reviewed .

Frequently asked questions

Is Amazon down right now?

The status box at the top of this page answers that live. We check the Amazon store, cart, sign-in and image servers every minute and count user reports.

Amazon shows a dog and "Sorry! Something went wrong!". What does it mean?

It is Amazon’s server error page. Reload once. If it keeps appearing across different pages, Amazon is having problems and the fix is to wait.

Did my order go through during the outage?

Check Your Orders before ordering again. Orders sometimes succeed even when checkout shows an error, and a second click can mean a second charge.

Is Amazon down because AWS is down?

Sometimes, but not usually. Amazon.com runs on AWS, yet several large AWS events left the store working. See our separate AWS status page.

Why does Amazon keep asking me to type characters?

That is a robot check, not an outage. VPNs, some browser extensions and many requests in a short time trigger it.

Is Amazon down only in my country?

Possibly. Amazon runs separate stores per country, so check whether the problem is on your local Amazon site or the US one.
